Our Analysis & Ratings
A quick kayak for flatwater or coastal conditions, the Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame Convertible Elite can be used alone or with a passenger. It comes with a somewhat longer setup time than other kayaks, but it has excellent passenger paddling capability and has all the characteristics needed to give it durability and performance power.
Performance (speed, tracking, manoeuvrability, stability, load handling): 9/10
Tracking: The built-in aluminium ribs give the bow and stern added robustness for excellent tracking, and the drop-stitch floor further improves tracking and glide.
Stability: Even in choppy waters, the directional fin of the AdvancedFrame Convertible provides stability on the water and a fun paddling experience.
Load Handling: It offers excellent passenger paddling capability, letting you use it alone or with a passenger without losing that stability.
Construction (materials, seams, valve quality, durability and fittings): 8/10
The AdvancedFrame Convertible Elite variant has a drop-stitch floor for improved tracking and glide and higher stiffness. You need to make sure you set up and inflate the kayak according to the instructions if you want to get the best performance out of it.
For example, there are little air tubes at the front and rear of the cockpit to inflate, to make sure the cockpit doesn't droop.
Setup/Pack Down (inflation time, valves, folding and drying): 5/10
The AdvancedFrame Convertible's setup procedure is well thought out and guided, but due to the numerous valves and attachments needed, it takes roughly 15 minutes to complete.
It also takes some time for the hull fabric to dry, and it can be challenging to reassemble everything inside the bag.
Portability (weight, packed size, ease of carrying): 7/10
This Advanced Elements inflatable kayak is fairly hefty, especially with the extra paddle holders, pump adaptor and cockpit enclosure that are included, making it a poor choice for hiking.
As the metal carabiners irritate your shoulders, the backpack function is all but worthless.
Comfort (seat support, legroom, fatigue over distance): 8/10
The tall, adjustable seats feature excellent lumbar support, which keeps you sitting straight when paddling rather than bending, as is the case in some other kayaks. It also has spray shields at the bow and stern that shield you from spray from the waves.
Value for money:
The AdvancedFrame Convertible Elite is well designed and equipped with performance-enhancing features, backed by excellent tracking, stability and comfort. The main trade-off is a longer setup process and a heavier, less comfortable carry.
Best for:
Flatwater and coastal conditions
Solo paddling or paddling with a passenger
Paddlers who value tracking and stability over a quick setup
Longer sessions where lumbar support and spray protection matter
Overall:
This kayak is well-designed and equipped with performance-boosting features.
