This is a light, portable kayak that is stable and handles well in the water. The Tech-Stitch (Razor Kayaks' engineered drop stitch) floor provides an excellent surface to paddle against, and it's really easy to set up and pack away. It's not as fast as some of the high-end models, but by no means is it slow. Easily manoeuvrable, this is a great one for the recreational paddler. For the price, it's excellent value for money.
Performance (speed, tracking, manoeuvrability, stability, load handling): 8/10
Speed: The Razor Kayaks R1 Ultra isn't as fast in the water as some of the other top-end models, but it's not that far off!
Manoeuvrability: It handles really well on account of the fin and shape of the hull, and is easily manoeuvrable.
Stability: The quality Tech-Stitch floor makes for a stable surface, and it's stable and handles well in the water overall.
Construction (materials, seams, valve quality, durability and fittings): 7/10
This is a well-made kayak with a good design. Stable in the water thanks to its Tech-Stitch floor, it is also tough thanks to 1000 denier reinforced PVC.
It's really good overall, we'd just love it to have a bit more pace, though if you're out for a leisurely paddle with the kids or just to relax, it's perfect.
Setup/Pack Down (inflation time, valves, folding and drying): 9/10
Easy to whip out, and with 3 inflation points all close together, this is quick to set up. The PVC is strong enough to not need to be covered in other fabrics, so it's also able to dry off quickly, which is great for pack down.
Portability (weight, packed size, ease of carrying): 9/10
This is an extremely light kayak at 8.2kg. It's still a bit bulkier dimensions-wise than some of the others, but the bag comes with shoulder straps, and we found it really easy to get down to the water.
Comfort (seat support, legroom, fatigue over distance): 9/10
This is a pretty comfortable kayak, and it's very stable in the water. The surface is good to paddle against, and it comes with a comfy seat.
You’re in a bit of a bent knee position when paddling, so it can be a little difficult to gather pace.
Value for money:
For the price, this is excellent value for money. It's stable, well built and easy to live with, even if outright speed isn't its strongest suit.
