Our Analysis & Ratings

If you’re looking for a durable table to take camping, the Front Runner Expander Table is a great addition to your gear. It’s not a large table, but if a smaller one is what you’re looking for, then the Expander Table is light and sturdy, giving you some extra table space when at camp.

Performance - The Front Runner Expander Table comfortably fits two chairs to dine or play games on, opening to 71.2x63.5x63.5cm, but it also supports up to 27.3kg, meaning you can use it for food prep and placing a gas stove on top, to stack gear on or just to have some extra surface area at camp. If need be, you can squeeze another two chairs around the ends, although it’s not a super comfortable setup as there’s no room for everyone’s legs under the table.

Construction - This powder-coated aluminium table has a heat-resistant tabletop, meaning you can place hot pots and pans on it without fear of damaging it. The legs are made from anodised aluminium, so it’s both durable and light, and doesn’t feel as though it will collapse under you. Just note that if you’re frequently using it around saltwater, the aluminium construction makes it prone to corrosion, but in aluminium that’s more of a cosmetic than structural concern.

Features - It’s a pretty basic table – the only real feature of note is that the legs are telescopic, making it pack away slightly smaller.

Portability - The table is quite light at 2.8kg and it folds flat to store away, which means it’s a great shape to put in the back of a car, but not ideal for carrying long distances. Its packed size is 61.8x63x5.1cm, which isn’t the smallest, compared to some others on our list.

Versatility - Being so easy to set up and use, the Front Runner Expander Table is made for a variety of uses. Use it as a side table, dining table, picnic table or worktable, it’s light enough to be transported for whatever you need, while also feeling stable. It’s a tad on the expensive side, though, for a table of its size.

Overall - The Front Runner Expander Table is light and well made, as well as quite versatile for camping, the garden or a picnic.
